Have people changed, or has the internet allowed us to see this bad behavior and bad morals? Were people always this crappy, or has something recently changed with the advent of social media?
Does having the ability to comment and not have any repercussions have something to do with this change? Is it the ability to be negative on social media that made this change? I don’t know, but I do feel like people have changed, and it’s not a good thing.
What is your viewpoint?
Do you think people have changed? And if they have, do you think it’s for the better or for the worst?
When I was growing up, people seemed to be more compassionate and caring. Currently, people are much less tolerant of others, more willing to voice their opinions about others, and seem more self-centered. We’re not looking to help others or do things that benefit others unless it positively impacts them or their wallets. It’s very selfish.
I don’t like where we are going. Young guys are going to the gym on steroids at a very young age, doing all of this just to be popular online and thinking they’re going to be successful. Then others think they’re supposed to aspire to be that jacked, tattooed, nice car driving guy with a hot girl. When did we become so dumb?
What’s the cause?
Is the political climate causing this? Are people worrying about things that they don’t have any business worrying about? There’s a lot of gray — less black and white.
I’ve always thought that people are innately good. I like to think that’s still the case, but everything seems so crazy and scary. Can it get worse? I’m sure it probably could get worse, and people could become more intolerant. People could be and do dumber things, like the OnlyFans culture.
Finding p^rn has become so prevalent. We’re almost numb to it. Sex IS a big deal, but it’s become commonplace for people to give money to see it. I feel like we’ve become morally bankrupt, and we don’t give a crap about others at this point.
What our focus should be
I focus on what I can change and on being a good person, doing what is right, rather than what is easy. But I see people arguing on social media, driving wedges, debating where they stand, what they believe, and whom they align with. There is this chasm, and it’s only getting wider. People are picking sides, and we’ve lost the ability to analyze situations critically ourselves. We’ve become sheep.
So many people are just following the flow because it’s popular and easy. I’m sad because life is never supposed to be this crazy. Maybe life would be better without technology. I do encourage people to spend less time on social media. It’s not healthy for us.
Dopamine is an issue. It’s a reward chemical that our body releases from doing something hard. But now you can pick up your phone and swipe to get the same. We’re not challenging ourselves. We need to start doing more difficult (harder) stuff because it makes us value things more.
We need to get out and experience real things in life, not just on the computer. We shouldn’t be experiencing things vicariously through others. Get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Do something good for others. Give compliments, open the door, say hello, and smile! These things can make a difference in the world. Treat people with kindness, courtesy, and respect.
