PEPTIDES: Beneficial or BullSH*T?

August 20, 2026
Peptides are everywhere right now. I was at the gym talking to my buddy Jeff, who asked me what my “peptide stack” was. I’m like, “My peptide stack?” Neither one of us was actually taking peptides, but he’d heard so much about them that he was curious.

And that’s exactly what’s happening right now. You open Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube, and somebody is talking about peptides, weight-loss drugs, recovery, anti-aging, muscle building, or some new biohack that’s supposedly going to change your life. There’s so much hype that I think we need to understand what peptides actually are before we start injecting random sh*t into our bodies.

Before you start injecting random sh*t in your body ….

The first thing you need to understand is that peptides aren’t magic—they’re messengers. Peptides are small chains of amino acids that essentially send instructions to your body. Think of them like text messages: regulate appetite, release growth hormone, repair tissue, or perform some other specific function. A peptide isn’t testosterone, and it isn’t a steroid. Different peptides send different messages, which means they can have different benefits and risks.

The second thing you need to understand is that just because something is called a peptide doesn’t mean it’s safe. Everything you put into your body can potentially have risks and side effects. One of my biggest concerns is where people get this stuff. There are shady websites selling compounds as “research chemicals,” and you may have absolutely no idea whether what you’re buying is sterile, properly dosed, or even what the label claims it is. If you’re considering something like this, I believe you need legitimate medical oversight, appropriate testing, proper dosing, and ongoing monitoring—not some dude on the Internet promising you a shortcut.

And that brings me to probably the most important point: peptides will not fix a bad lifestyle. Everybody wants the shortcut. We want to lose fat faster, recover quicker, look younger, build muscle, sleep better, and feel incredible. But a recovery peptide doesn’t replace sleep, and something designed to support performance doesn’t replace actually going to the gym. These things can potentially support a plan, but they cannot replace the fundamentals—exercise, nutrition, sleep, consistency, and taking care of your body.

Five questions to ask yourself

Before I would ever consider taking a peptide, I’d ask myself:

  1. What problem am I actually trying to solve? Don’t take something simply because your buddy is taking it.
  2. Is there legitimate research showing that it actually works? TikTok testimonials aren’t scientific evidence.
  3. Am I getting it through a legitimate medical provider? Where it comes from, how it’s administered, and how you’re monitored matter.
  4. Do I understand the risks and potential side effects? There is no free lunch when it comes to this stuff.
  5. Have I fixed the basics first? If your diet sucks, you don’t exercise, and you’re looking for a magic bullet, you’re probably wasting your time, money, and energy.

What they are — tools

At the end of the day, I don’t think peptides are inherently good or bad. They’re tools. The right peptide, for the right person, for the right reason, with legitimate medical supervision, could potentially be incredibly effective. But don’t get sucked into the hype and start experimenting with your body because some jacked dude on social media told you it changed his life. Do your homework, understand the risks, fix the fundamentals, and if you decide to explore peptides, do it intelligently and under proper medical supervision.
