The quality of clothing, automobiles, and everything else you buy seems to be decreasing, and things need to be replaced at increasingly rapid intervals. That said, I want to talk about some items I purchased once and will have for the rest of my life.
One-and-done purchases
- Leather jacket. A high-quality leather jacket will last you your whole life. As it ages, it looks better. It will mold to your body, and if you buy a timeless style, it will always work.
- Pea coat. This type of coat, or any other classic driving jacket, primarily made from wool and constructed well, will last forever. They are timeless styles; if you get high-quality ones and take care of them, you’ll have them forever.
- Pocket knife. If you get a high-quality one, you’ll have it forever. Of course, you’ll need to sharpen it, but it’s also an item you can pass down through generations. They’re almost like heirlooms.
- Timepiece. High-quality watches can be expensive, but you can wear them daily for the rest of your life.
- Leather shoes. If you invest in a high-quality pair of shoes, you may have to get them resoled because the bottom will eventually wear, but you can keep them looking incredible for a long time.
- Artwork may be expensive, but you will be joyful and satisfied every time you look at it.
- Leather bags or briefcases. Buy something high-quality; it will last. Opt for timeless style.
- Books are an under-reported item of importance. They are pieces of knowledge and a significant investment.
- Furniture. High-quality furniture looks and feels amazing, doesn’t break down, and will stand the test of time.
- Tools. Whether it’s power tools, screwdrivers, hammers, ladders, or more, buy the good stuff that will be with you the rest of your life.
- House. Don’t opt for a cheap house with vinyl siding and particleboard. A standard track home is less expensive and quicker to build, but it won’t last. Think brick or stone houses.
- Guns. Whether you’re into them or not, a high-quality firearm is a sound investment. You’ll need to clean it, but it’s one of those things that you can pass down from generation to generation like an heirloom.
- Jewelry. You can also pass this down from generation to generation. Look for high quality, not something cheaply made by someone just trying to make a profit.
- Musical instruments. A high-quality trumpet or guitar will last forever and can be enjoyed for years.
