In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro wants to talk to you about something he did. He said he totally snapped and yelled at his dad.
His dad referred to Alpha working a lot which rubbed him the wrong way- and Alpha says that people don’t understand which makes him ultra-sensitive. His dad’s intentions were solid & Alpha feels guilty, but when people question you all the time about what you’re doing because it’s different from them, it’s just annoying. He says he wants to be left alone and left to be happy.
Do Other People’s Opinions Matter?
He says people give their opinions about how you should live your life, and sometimes they have good intentions. But Alpha has been thinking about why would someone want to change you from what you love doing – especially work-life balance.
At the end of the day, you need to make (1) yourself happy as (2) your significant other / family. If you work all the time but you enjoy doing it, you’re doing it for a reason, and you’re and you’re motivated / driven, the line between ‘work’ and ‘not work’ is blurry. Everything that Alpha does surrounds his desire to be successful. If you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like a sacrifice.
Neglecting Loved Ones
Alpha had a time in his life where he had a very bad work-life balance. He always worked, neglected himself, and neglected his wife. It’s not maintainable as you have to take time for yourself and others. What helped was developing a set schedule – the daily routine is critical which includes spending time with your family (including your pets).
You have to do what is right for you regardless of other’s opinions. It’s ultimately up to you and your family. Sacrifices have to be made to be successful. But it’s about being present when you are there with your loved ones. Alpha said he hasn’t always succeed at that.
Ultimately It’s Up to You
If you enjoy what you’re doing, sometimes it’s hard to put it down. When Alpha’s excited about his businesses, he likes to eat, drink, and sleep it. He doesn’t enjoy vacationing like other people – but he loves what he does for his work. He says he’s super fortunate, and he doesn’t know how long he’ll want to work this hard. But retirement sounds horrible to him.
Work-life balance is up to you. If you want to work hard because you have goals, do it. But if you need to make time for your loved ones – if you don’t nurture those, those relationships will suffer. Make time for them by finding the balance.
