Being a man today is not what it was 50 years ago!

June 7, 2025

I have been thinking about life for men today versus when I was born — almost 50 years ago. Let’s get one thing straight. Being a man today is not what it used to be fifty years ago. The blueprint for manhood was simple back then:

You worked a 9 to 5.
You wore stiff suits and slick hair.
You didn’t talk about feelings.
You didn’t moisturize.
And God forbid you trimmed your eyebrows.

Back then, being “manly” meant being stoic, tough, provider-focused, and — let’s be honest — emotionally constipated. Today? It’s a whole new game. And I LOVE IT.

Men are standing at a critical intersection

But I also know it’s confusing as hell for a lot of guys because we’re standing at the intersection of tradition and transformation— one foot in old-school values with the other in modern expectations. And honestly? That’s powerful. Let’s break it down.

Masculinity Has Evolved (And That’s Not a Bad Thing) — Back in the day, if you weren’t swinging a hammer or working a factory line, you were “soft.” If you gave a damn about how you looked? You were “vain.” If you cried? Forget it. “Weak.” But now, men are realizing that vulnerability is strength.

Caring about your appearance isn’t just okay — it’s a damn power move. You’re allowed to be emotionally intelligent, well-groomed, and ambitious all at the same time. You’re allowed to give a crap about skincare AND own a toolbox. It’s not one or the other anymore. It’s everything — and that’s badass.

Take advantage of what is at your fingertips!

We’ve Got More Freedom AND More Responsibility– Men today have options our grandfathers never dreamed of. You can be a creator, an entrepreneur, a stay-at-home dad, a YouTuber, a crypto trader, a barber, a coach, a tattoo artist, or run a business from your freakin’ phone. We’re living in an era where the rules are being rewritten — by YOU.

But with that freedom comes something even bigger: accountability. There are no excuses anymore. You can’t just blame “the system” if you’re sitting on your ass playing Xbox all day. You can start something. Learn anything. Build everything. So the question isn’t, “Can I?” It’s: “Will I?”

The Rise of Self-Care. Finally, it’s not just for women. Fifty years ago, “self-care” for a man meant one thing: drinking a beer in silence after mowing the lawn. Today, self-care means everything from mental health to moisturizer, and I’m here for it.

You’ve got access to therapy, fitness knowledge, grooming tools, supplements, biohacking — hell, even cold plunges and infrared saunas if that’s your thing. But here’s the kicker: most men still don’t take advantage of it. They still think self-care is “soft.”

Let me tell you — there’s nothing soft about becoming the strongest, sharpest, most dialed-in version of yourself. You think it’s weak to meditate or journal? Try sitting with your thoughts for 10 minutes without grabbing your phone. That’s discipline. That’s strength.

Express and impress

Style Has Become a Statement– Gentlemen, if there’s one thing I’ve been preaching for over a decade — it’s this:

Style is not superficial.
Style is your voice without words.

Back in the day, men wore suits because they had to. Today, men dress to express — and to impress. You’ve got more options than ever before, ranging from streetwear, business casual, athleisure, vintage, tailored — the list goes on.

The modern man can rock a hoodie and still look like a million bucks if it FITS right and he’s confident. It’s not about brands — it’s about presentation. And guess what? People are judging you. You walk into a room, and before you open your mouth, you’ve already made a statement. So what’s yours saying?

Men are now more complete than ever

Relationships Are Deeper (If You’re Brave Enough) — Back in the day, men didn’t talk. They didn’t connect. They didn’t understand how to really show up for their partner emotionally — not because they didn’t care, but because they were never taught HOW. Today, there’s no excuse.

We have books, podcasts, coaches, and more content than ever before teaching us to be better lovers, better listeners, and better partners. But it takes courage to break those old habits and to sit down and ask, “How can I love better?” and to stop running from conflict and lean into conversation.

Modern relationships require emotional fitness — just like hitting the gym. And the men who master it? They don’t just date. They connect. They build. They elevate. They lead with heart — not just muscle.

So, Are Men Today Better? — Not necessarily, but they’ve got the potential to be. We’re not “softer.” We’re just more well-rounded. We’re not “less manly.” We’re more complete. But only if we do the work. Only if we reject the laziness and embrace the evolution. Only if we realize that strength comes in MANY forms — not just in a bench press PR or how many zeros are in your bank account.

Character. Purpose. Compassion. Consistency. Style. Communication. Drive — That’s the new currency of masculinity. And gentlemen — it’s time to cash in. Now go out there and be the kind of man your grandfather would be proud of — and amazed by. Modern. Confident. Powerful. Stay strong, stay stylish — and keep evolving.
