I need to vent for a second because this absolutely drives me crazy. I’m talking about brands that build their reputation on quality, earn your trust, and then quietly start cutting corners while charging the same—or even more.
I experienced this firsthand with my go-to white tees. Years ago, they were incredible with a perfect fit, amazing fabric, and lasted forever. Now? Cheap, tight, unwearable garbage. And that’s the bigger issue—it’s not about price.
If you’re going to charge premium prices, you’d better deliver premium quality. I understand costs go as I deal with it myself, but I refuse to quietly downgrade a product and hope you don’t notice. That’s what separates brands that win in the long term from those that lose loyal customers forever.
At the end of the day, it’s simple: value matters. If it doesn’t last, doesn’t perform, or doesn’t feel worth it, you’re not buying a product. You’re buying hype. And gentlemen, we don’t do hype—we do smart, intentional investing in ourselves.
I’ll spend money all day if the quality is there, but when brands sacrifice craftsmanship just to boost margins, I’m out. So today, I’m breaking down the brands I personally feel are no longer worth it—and a few that still get it right.
Brands I Would NEVER Buy Again
- AllSaints – Used to be incredible; now the quality is trash for the same premium price.
- Ted Baker – Once amazing craftsmanship, now watered down after licensing changes.
- Aldo – (via Ted Baker shoes) Cheap quality, not worth it.
- Manscaped – Overpriced for what it actually costs to produce.
- Tom Ford – Sky-high prices, but the quality doesn’t justify it anymore.
- Ray-Ban – Mid-tier quality with inflated pricing due to brand name.
- YETI – Marketing genius, but massively overpriced for what you get.
- Mana (positive comparison mention, but used to expose YETI pricing gap)
- Creed (Aventus) – Insane markup; you’re paying for packaging and hype.
- Hugo Boss – Used to be premium; now quality has dropped significantly.
- Lacoste – You’re paying for the logo, not the fabric.
- Ralph Lauren (Polo lines overall) – Expensive across tiers, inconsistent value.
- Louis Vuitton – Hype-driven pricing; materials don’t justify the cost.
- Zara – Fast fashion priced like it’s not.
- H&M – Used to be decent for the price; now mostly disposable clothing.
- Department store shoes (DSW/Macy’s) – Poor quality across the board.
- Topman – Just not good—cheap feel, low durability.
- Calvin Klein – Lost its premium edge; now feels mass-produced and cheap.
Brands I STILL Stand Behind
- Pete & Pedro – High-quality products at a fair price (and yes, I stand by it).
- Tiege Hanley – Consistent quality and value.
- SuitSupply – Great fabrics, construction, and overall value.
- Collars & Co. – Premium feel, excellent materials, worth the investment.
- Todd Snyder – Stylish, high-quality, and well-constructed pieces.
- Lululemon – Expensive, but it lasts forever—true performance quality.
- Rolex – Pricey, but you’re getting legit craftsmanship and no corners cut.
