I’ve learned that there’s a big difference between spending money and investing money. Some things cost more upfront, but if they improve your life, your health, your confidence, or give you more time, they’re absolutely worth it.
For me, that includes things you don’t necessarily need, but if you’re going to use or enjoy something constantly, paying more for quality can make sense. I also believe investing in yourself is almost always worth it. Do your homework and make sure the person teaching you has actually done what they claim. There are a lot of fake gurus out there, so check the receipts.
But one of the biggest things I’ve learned is the value of buying back my time. Hiring somebody to mow my lawn or clean my house means I can spend those hours doing something I actually enjoy. Time is the one thing I can’t make more of, so if I can responsibly spend money to get some of it back, that’s worth it to me.
I don’t think the goal should be to buy expensive stuff just because you can. Spend money on things that make your life better, healthier, happier, or give you more time to actually enjoy it. That’s where the real value is. So, without further ado, here are my top 15 items worth the money:
- Custom or tailored suit that fits perfectly
- Rolex watch that you’ll own for decades
- Premium bedding — quality sheets, comforter, and mattress that you’ll spend a third of your life sleeping in
- Bidet — specifically my Toto toilet-seat bidet
- Better-quality food
- Preventative healthcare — blood work, physicals, calcium scores, colonoscopies, personal training
- Artwork — unique pieces you genuinely love
- Therapy
- A better haircut + quality hair products
- Quality shoes — particularly real leather
- Education
- Coaching or mentorship — from credible people who have actually done the work
- Buying back your time — hiring help for tasks you don’t want to do
- House cleaning — this is a way that I buy back my time
- A Porsche 911 — specifically, the base Carrera has changed my mind about whether a car can actually be worth the money.
