Stop Wearing This If You’re Over 30

October 10, 2025
By the age of 30, a man should stop wearing certain style items. A questionable style is more acceptable in a man’s teens and twenties, but people tend to have lower expectations during those years. Furthermore, many times he doesn’t have a lot of his own money, and he’s trying to figure out his style and profession.

By the time a man enters his thirties, he needs to give up, throw away, donate, and stop wearing certain items. Here’s the list:

  • Khaki pants or chinos. When getting dressed up, these are not the best options. Khakis are acceptable for work, dates, and other activities in high school; however, many other amazing colors of pants are available that aren’t basic and boring, such as tan.
  • Baseball hats. Young men like baseball hats because they look cool, and they don’t have to fix their hair. By the time you’re 30, ditch the hat.
  • Athletic sneakers. Wearing athletic sneakers with non-athletic clothing is okay when you’re younger. But by the time you hit 30, only wear these when you’re working out or casually with joggers or shorts. They’re not cool with anything else, including jeans. Opt for a minimal leather sneaker instead.
  • Overly distressed denim. Denim that’s too whiskered, torn, or looks cheap and immature.
  • Pants that are too big and baggy. If these are hanging off your rear, they should be avoided. Don’t have pants that puddle down by your ankles either. Focus on pants that fit correctly. It’s all about tailoring so that they fit you properly. Accentuate the visual line from your head down to your feet to look as tall, lean, and muscular as possible.
  • Not wearing monochromatic looks. Opt for monochromatic looks to appear taller. The look is simple. Check out the video for different combinations of items in monochromatic looks.
  • Wearing bulky little boy sweaters. Avoid wearing super heavy sweaters with numerous stripes or patterns. They’re too thick. Opt for a lightweight cotton cashmere sweater or a merino wool sweater. It looks more elevated and refined. A lightweight V-neck is another option, offering versatility for layering.
  • Baggy basic button-up shirts. Your shirt should not fit too tightly around the body; it should be nicely tapered and tailored. The arms should not be super long, and the fabric should be stretchy and soft. The collars should be rigid without becoming floppy.
  • Graphic t-shirts. Whether or not stylized with a big brand logo or something silly, the look is youthful. You want to look clean and as good as possible by wearing solids instead of stripes, logos, or graphic designs.
  • Stupid socks. Socks with funny patterns look terrible. Wear no-show socks with loafers and sneakers.
  • Cheap suits. You don’t have to spend a ton of cash to get a higher-quality suit. Look for a non-synthetic, natural-looking fabric such as wool, cotton, wool-blend, or even linen. These can drape more smoothly on your body, allow for better breathability, and will last longer and better. Invest a little bit more money in higher-quality suits that you’ll have for years.
  • Cargo pants and shorts. They are acceptable, but you shouldn’t wear them too often. You shouldn’t wear them too big either.
  • Big and long shorts. Board shorts are out. You want a pair of shorts that are longer and a bit more cropped to show a little bit more thigh.
  • Youthful accessories. Necklaces and bracelets made from puka shells or leather appear cheap. Avoid them. Instead, opt for a bracelet made of metal or perhaps beads, but avoid wearing too many. Don’t wear too many rings either—one per hand is the maximum. And when you reach 30, you should avoid wearing tech watches.
  • Trendy shoes. Eliminate any that are popular with a younger crowd.
  • Little kid outerwear. As a man ages, he should opt for lightweight jackets, cardigans, and shackets to layer, upgrade, and elevate his style. Additionally, a pea coat is a must-have for every guy over the age of 30, as it’s a great way to stay warm while also looking stylish. Puffer jackets are a bit more youthful, but they are acceptable when paired with a casual outfit or gym wear. As you mature, you need to have depth with outerwear. Not only upgrade your pants, jeans, shoes, boots, and t-shirts, but also jackets and coats. Often, these are left to the side.
