Running out of time? What most guys don’t talk about

June 13, 2026

An Alpha M. YouTube viewer wrote to me: “I do not know exactly what I want to do. I do not know what my purpose is or how to identify it. I do not know where I want to be in the future, and sometimes it feels like I am just existing rather than actually living with intention. I know that may sound bad, but I am being completely honest. The truth is, I want more for myself. I want to become financially free. I want to “make it” in life. I want to become a man who is disciplined, focused, successful, and proud of the life he is building. But right now, I do not know where to begin. I do not know what steps to take, what mindset to develop, what habits to build, or how to move from confusion to clarity.

I want to address his concerns because this topic resonates with so many men, because the feeling isn’t really about being lost. It’s about wanting more from yourself and not knowing where to direct that energy. The encouraging part is that clarity rarely comes before action. It almost always comes because of it.

I think the most powerful message is that success isn’t a single breakthrough moment. It isn’t finding your purpose on a random Tuesday afternoon. It’s the accumulation of thousands of small decisions that gradually transform who you become. Purpose tends to reveal itself while you’re building, learning, failing, and growing—not while you’re waiting for certainty.

I am perhaps a clear example of this. I didn’t have the Alpha M roadmap at 30. I didn’t know where everything was headed. What I did have was the willingness to keep moving, keep trying, keep learning, and keep betting on myself when the future wasn’t clear. That’s a message a lot of men need to hear right now.

A few years ago, somebody asked me a question that hit me right in the gut: “Aaron, what do you do when you’re 30 years old and have absolutely no idea what you’re doing with your life?” The reason it resonated so deeply is because I’ve been there. And if I’m being honest, I think more men are there than anyone realizes. The difference is most guys never talk about it.

When I was 30, I wasn’t sitting on a mountain of success. I wasn’t financially secure. I wasn’t confident. I wasn’t the guy you see today. I was bankrupt. I was scared. I was questioning every decision I’d made. And the worst part wasn’t the money—it was feeling like I had somehow fallen behind everyone else. I looked around and saw people getting married, buying houses, building careers, and I felt like I was standing still.

The first thing I need you to understand is that feeling lost is not a sign that you’re failing. It’s a sign that you’re paying attention. The dangerous people are the ones who sleepwalk through life without ever questioning where they’re headed. The fact that you’re uncomfortable means there’s a part of you that knows you’re capable of more. That’s not a weakness. That’s your wake-up call.

One of the biggest mistakes men make is believing they need to discover their purpose before taking action. They sit around waiting for some magical moment of clarity. They think purpose arrives like a lightning bolt from the sky. It doesn’t. Purpose is usually discovered through movement, not contemplation. You don’t find your path by standing still. You find it by walking.

If you don’t know what you want to do with your life, that’s okay. Most people don’t. Instead of asking, “What’s my purpose?” ask a better question: “What interests me enough to explore?” You don’t need a 20-year plan. You need a direction. Even a bad direction can teach you something. Standing still teaches you nothing.

Another thing I want you to hear is that comparison is absolutely destroying your confidence. Social media has convinced an entire generation of men that they’re behind. You’re comparing your chapter three to somebody else’s chapter twenty. You’re comparing your real life to somebody else’s highlight reel. Stop it. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is the man you were six months ago.

When I was rebuilding my life, I didn’t focus on becoming successful. I focused on becoming disciplined. Success is unpredictable. Discipline isn’t. Discipline is waking up when you said you would. Going to the gym when you don’t feel like it. Saving money instead of spending it. Reading instead of scrolling. Keeping promises to yourself. Discipline is what builds the foundation that success eventually stands on.

A lot of men tell me they want confidence. Here’s the truth: confidence isn’t something you magically feel. Confidence is earned. Every time you do something difficult, every time you keep your word, every time you follow through when it’s uncomfortable, you make a small deposit into your confidence account. The problem is most men are looking for confidence before they take action, when action is actually what creates confidence.

Let’s talk about financial freedom for a minute. Most people think financial freedom starts with making more money. Sometimes it does. But often financial freedom starts with becoming better at managing the money you already have. Learn how to budget. Eliminate unnecessary debt. Invest consistently. Develop valuable skills. The goal isn’t to get rich overnight. The goal is to become the type of person who creates value and makes smart decisions repeatedly.

Another thing I learned is that clarity comes from experience. When you’re lost, your job isn’t to figure out your entire future. Your job is to gather information, try things, start a side business, learn a skill, take a class, volunteer, travel if you can, and meet different people. Every experience gives you more data about who you are and who you are not. That’s how clarity develops.

You also need to understand that nobody is coming to save you. That might sound harsh, but I actually find it empowering. The moment you stop waiting for somebody to rescue you, motivate you, or hand you a roadmap is the moment your life starts changing. Personal responsibility isn’t punishment. It’s freedom.

If you’re feeling behind, remember this: life is not a race. Some men find success at 25; some find it at 45. Some discover their passion after retirement. There is no universal timeline. The only timeline that matters is yours. The worst thing you can do is quit because you think you’re late. You’re only late if you stop moving.

One exercise that changed my life was asking myself a simple question: “What would the best version of me do today?” Not next year. Not five years from now. Today. Would he work out? Would he save that money? Would he make that phone call? Would he apply for that opportunity? The future version of yourself is built one decision at a time.

And here’s something that doesn’t get talked about enough: your purpose may not be one thing. We love the idea that every person has a single calling. In reality, purpose often evolves. My purpose at 25 wasn’t my purpose at 35. And it won’t be the same at 55. Don’t become so obsessed with finding one perfect answer that you miss all the opportunities in front of you.

If you’re 30 years old—or 40, 50, or beyond—and you feel lost right now, I want you to know something. You are not broken, you are not a failure, and you are definitely not out of time. The fact that you’re asking these questions means you’re ready for growth.

Start small. Build momentum. Develop discipline. Explore your interests. Stop comparing yourself to others. And most importantly, keep moving. Because the men who eventually create lives they’re proud of aren’t the ones who had all the answers. They’re the ones who refused to quit searching for them.

One haircut does not lock you into one look. The real difference comes from how you style it. With the right products, you can shift your hair from clean and controlled to messy and textured or full and voluminous without ever touching the clippers again. A lightweight spray builds natural movement, a cream adds shape and control, and a powder pushes volume and separation for a more lived-in finish.

Same haircut, completely different energy depending on how you style it that day!
