STOP Wearing the WRONG T-Shirt

May 24, 2026
A t-shirt can either make you look stylish, confident, and put together, or like you gave up halfway through getting dressed. And the crazy part? Most guys have no idea the difference.

One of the biggest mistakes I see guys make is wearing t-shirts that are way too small or way too long. Years ago, those longline tees with the curved hems were everywhere, but those days are over.

Today’s t-shirt features

Today, it’s all about a clean, blunt-cut fit. Your t-shirt should hit about mid-crotch — not hanging like a dress and definitely not short enough to flash your stomach every time you raise your arms.

Sleeve length also matters more than most guys realize. You want the sleeves to hit around mid-bicep so they show a little tricep and shape without squeezing your arms to death. Sleeves that are too short look childish, and sleeves that hit near the elbow completely hide your physique. The goal is fitted — not painted on.

A sloppy collar can ruin an otherwise good look. Deep V-necks are out, and stretched-out “bacony” collars make a shirt look old instantly. A clean crew neck is timeless, versatile, and flattering.

And while we’re at it — pocket tees and giant chest logos need to go. I’m all about simplicity because simple equals versatile. A clean, solid-color tee always looks more premium, more timeless, and way more stylish than a loud, branded shirt everybody recognizes instantly.

Another thing I’m not a fan of is those shiny synthetic performance shirts for everyday wear. If you’re training in them, cool. But wearing them casually with jeans or shorts usually looks off. I personally prefer high-quality cotton because it feels softer, breathes better, and doesn’t trap odor the way polyester does.

I found the perfect t-shirt

The perfect t-shirt should feel amazing the second you put it on. If it’s too tight, too baggy, too boxy, too long, or uncomfortable around the neck, it’s not the right tee. But when you find one that fits perfectly, buy multiples. That’s exactly what I did.

Recently, I found a t-shirt from Banana Republic called the Luxe Touch tee, and honestly, I love it. It’s soft, premium-looking, and the fit is exactly what I look for: snug in the chest and arms without being tight, slightly relaxed through the body, and the perfect length.

What really makes the shirt stand out are the subtle details — a slimmer collar, small side slits for movement, and fabric that looks elevated enough to dress up with slacks or a blazer but still works casually with jeans or shorts. That versatility is what separates a great t-shirt from an average one.

The bottom line

The bottom line is that a t-shirt may seem simple, but when it fits correctly, it can completely transform how you look and how confident you feel. The right tee doesn’t just cover your body — it enhances it.
