Why People {Secretly} DON’T Respect You

April 6, 2025
Last weekend, I went out to dinner with my wife, and a table of five guys dressed well in suits was next to us. They were professionals; one was the boss (the group’s alpha). The other four guys were kissing his ass and joking around, but he was in charge.

We were enjoying the meal when suddenly, we heard one guy get super loud and call the waitress ‘stupid.’ He was freaking out and making a scene over his steak being undercooked. He appeared to be showing off for the other guys at the table. The situation was so bad that the waitress started crying and ran off. I excused myself to talk to her, tell her I was sorry, and ask if I could do something. This demonstrates how money doesn’t equal respect, which got me thinking about what makes people not respect you.

It doesn’t matter what you think or how people view you; it’s about your image and how others perceive you. Take consistent actions to garner respect. When you are respected, people will treat you well. You don’t want people to laugh behind your back or not trust you. You want to be respected, achieve everything you want, and have opportunities.  Look good, be a man of your word, have integrity, be emotionally available, and connect with others to be respected and get more out of life.

You won’t be respected if you …

  1. Don’t treat people well. Nobody respects someone mean.
  2. Gossip. If you gossip, others don’t respect you, and they don’t trust you.
  3. Are self-destructive and obnoxious. Social media allows stupid people to show everyone how stupid they are. Act like a gentleman!
  4. Put yourself on a pedestal. People won’t respect you if you act like your sh!t doesn’t stink.
  5. Ass kiss. If you kiss people’s asses, they won’t respect you either.
  6. Are dishonest. People won’t respect you if you lie, cheat, steal, or are not a man of your word. Respect is earned through actions.
  7. Do not respect yourself. Take action to control your life and happiness. I recommend therapy because it has changed every aspect of my life. Try Better Help for 10% off your first month of therapy and get matched with a therapist who will listen and help you.
  8. Over-sexualize everything. If you’re hypersexual, such as always talking about or looking at sex and p^rn, people won’t respect you.
  9. Do not take care of yourself. If you don’t take care of your body, people won’t respect you. This is especially true if you have a weak physique, such as being overweight or lacking muscle tone. You don’t have to have chiseled six-pack abs or extremely low body fat, but you must take care of yourself. When someone has a good physique, you know that they have discipline, which is incredibly attractive.
  10. Are not disciplined. If you’re impulsive, people won’t respect you. Be willing to put time and effort into achieving goals. Be consistent and realize goals are not always accomplished quickly.
  11. Do not dress well. If you dress like a little boy or immature, people won’t respect you, and you won’t be as relevant. Take care of your style and put together coordinated outfits that are appropriate. Make sure your clothes fit. Dressing well will correlate to being viewed as more attractive and current, and you put yourself into a position to earn more money.
  12. Smell bad. It doesn’t matter how much money you make or the car you drive; if you stink, people won’t respect you and want to get away from you. Ensure you do not have stinky breath because people will not want to be close to you. Bad breath is disgusting.
  13. Wear too much fragrance.
  14. Have a dirty car. If your vehicle smells like ass, people won’t respect you. Also, don’t drive like a jerk. If you speed, cut people off, use inappropriate gestures, or have a bunch of bumper stickers and stuffed animals all over your car, people don’t respect you.
