The number one thing you can do to change your life is to help other people. So, let’s go! I teamed-up with Jiffy Lube, who drives to do more in local communities by giving back to those who help others. Today, we’re headed to Meals on Wheels Atlanta, one of my favorite charities. We’re meeting Dileep, who is being honored by Jiffy Lube by giving him a complimentary year’s worth of maintenance so he can continue to give back and do more.
Meals on Wheels Atlanta
Meals on Wheels Atlanta’s goal is to help end senior hunger in Atlanta. The organization started in 1965 as a soup kitchen, but it has evolved into much more over the years. They not only deliver nutritious meals to seniors in need and have an emergency food pantry, but they also offer home repair and pet food to seniors. Many of these seniors with pets share their food with the animals, so the initiative was started to help provide food for not only the seniors but also their pets. Often, society often neglects to think about its seniors, who are incredibly vulnerable.
The Volunteer | Dileep
One of the critical components of Meals on Wheels is the volunteers — the people that deliver the meals to the seniors. Today, we meet Dileep, who I am incredibly honored to chat with about why he started volunteering. He drives about 80 miles every Saturday, delivering about 4,000 meals every year. The seniors look forward to the meals, as their conditions are not perfect. This need motivated Dileep, and helping makes him feel good and fulfilled.
Dileep uses his personal time to volunteer, but this time is also taken away from his family. Further, the driving, which is about 6 hours a week, has put 10-15K miles on his car from volunteering. Helping Meals on Wheels Atlanta is a very selfless act, and that is why Jiffy Lube is offering Dileep assistance with the wear-and-tear on his car. Jiffy Lube is giving Dileep a 1-year of complimentary maintenance to keep him on the road and giving back.
